I don’t know about you and your family, but as my kids get a little bit older, we sure do enjoy family game night. We even love hosting game nights when we have extra family members or friends visiting. Having a good set of games to play is always helpful!
Below is my list of our favorite family game night games that I’d highly recommend you get, as soon as possible! I’ve even included our favorite card games and virtual games! The great part about having a family game night is that it’s a very frugal way to enjoy quality time. It’s even a great way to enjoy not only your family, but also your close friends.

How To Keep Game Night Frugal
Family game night doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t have to run out and buy each of the games on this list. Consider borrowing a game from a friend or asking for one of these games as a Christmas gift from your in-laws.
One year, we had our Bible study group over for a Christmas party. Our Christmas parties always seem to include playing the White Elephant Game and this particular year we had a theme for the gifts – to re-gift a family game that you didn’t play anymore.
It was a blast! We had so much fun stealing games from each other and then we all got to go home with a new family game night game!

Bargain Ways To Enjoy New Family Games
- Find games at a thrift store.
- Look for games at garage sales.
- Buy used games on VarageSale, Mercari, or Facebook Marketplace.
- Ask for a new game as gifts for birthdays, or Christmas.
- Borrow from a neighbor or friend.
- Make your own games.
- Play virtual games.
- Host a Family Game Night Swap with a group of friends, and trade games.
- Find a Buy 2 Get 1 Free Sale (Target does this a couple times a year). It’s a great time to stock up!

- Wits & Wagers – Our favorite game to play with a big crowd!
- Catan – A dearly loved game by my older kids – this game is made for up to 4 players, if you have more people in your household, consider also buying the extension pack.
- Qwirkle – This is my favorite game of all time!
- Phase 10 – Another one of my favorites!
- Clue – A classic favorite of my kids!
- Throw Throw Burrito – This game is hilarious!
- Sequence – Great family strategy game!
- Apples To Apples– Excellent game to play with a big group!
- Headbandz– Your family will be laughing and giggling so much with this one!
- Life– Classic family board game that never gets old!
Games We Have Not Played Yet, But Want To
We have a running list of games we want to play that we haven’t been able to try yet. There are so many great games to play, and at least two of these games are currently wrapped as gifts under our Christmas tree! Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone I told you that!
