There is so much work involved in planning a birthday party, then when I start thinking about all the kids that will be running through my house, and the mess that will be left when they all leave, it makes me want to just throw in the towel and say “forget it!”
But, then I remember back to when I was a kid and how my mom would plan the most epic birthday parties for me, and she managed to do it all on a shoestring budget! Cancelled Party Last year?
I know a lot of birthday parties got cancelled last year due the pandemic. My son’s party was one of those that we had to call off at the last minute because just days before his party, his entire class at school got quarantined. I was so frustrated too! Maybe you were smarter than me and went ahead and cancelled the party before you had it all planned?
Either way, this year, it looks like a lot of places are getting back into the normal swing of things again, which means you can go ahead and plan the party this year for sure!
Plan That Party!
Even though it’s looking like this will shake up to be a great year to go ahead and plan your child’s birthday party, I also know that feeling of dread when you realize you HAVE to plan the party!
I love birthday parties, but I don’t always love how much work they are. Hear me when I say that I get it. Even me, the mom who loves to help other people plan frugally awesome parties, still gets stressed out!
My mission is to help moms, just like you, plan awesome parties so you can celebrate life on a bargain! I’m here to make party planning fun and easy for you, so you can enjoy the party and focus on your child instead.

How To Plan a Party in 15 Minutes Or Less
I have one really simple trick to planning your child’s birthday party in 15 minutes or less and it probably won’t surprise you. What you need is a good tool, like a planning checklist.

Here are few other tips to helping you know what to include in your party, and what you can do without.
Make It Easy
I believe kids birthday parties can be awesome without being difficult. You don’t have to include everything in order for your child to love the party. My motto when planning a party is to Let It Be Easy!
Do the things that make it less stressful for you to plan. For example – you can spend numerous hours baking and decorating a fabulous, 7 layered, multi-colored cake. Or you can spend an hour baking boxed cupcakes that you add a little frosting and sprinkles to.
You get to choose the things that you want to spend time on, and if baking is not your favorite thing, then save the time and energy and make the easy cupcakes instead.
Pick Your Battles
You know the things you are good at, and the things you should get help with. If you are great at making up scavenger hunt clues, then you may want to make your own games and activities for your party.
On the other hand, if being creative is not your strong suit, then don’t sweat it! Search Pinterest for games that someone else has made, or buy a guide that will show you step-by-step how to make fun games and activities.
Stick To The Essentials
Nowadays, parents tend to go way overboard when they are planning a birthday party for their child. I’m all about having fun and making the party memorable, but there is no need to spend $400+ to do so! When you are planning your party, just make sure you stick to the essentials – location, decorations, snacks, games, cake, and presents. That’s all you need!
You can decide based off your budget how much you spend on each thing, but I’ll tell you, I’m a big fan of spending no more than $100 on a party to include the essentials, and that’s for up to 10 kids.
