4 Easy Playdough Recipes
I will be showing you how to make 4 easy fall glitter playdough recipes. Cinnamon Stick, Basil, Vanilla Bean, and Pumpkin Pie. For each recipe I’ll include a supply list, directions, and photos.
Best Basic Playdough Recipe
Each recipe uses my basic Koolaid Playdough recipe that I love – minus the Koolaid. This is the by far the best playdough recipe I’ve ever found. It lasts for a long time, as long as you keep the playdough in a airtight container.
I like to make and keep my different flavors in these 2 oz plastic sauce cup containers with lids. They are the perfect size for sharing your fall glitter playdough with friends after you make all 4 recipes. You can also get the 5 oz size if you plan to keep the whole batch of playdough. Each recipe makes about 10oz of playdough.
1. Pumpkin Pie Glitter Playdough Recipe
Get ready for beautiful orange playdough speckled with copper colored glitter that smells just like a pumpkin pie!
Supplies:
- 1 cup of Flour
- 1/4 cup of Salt
- 1/2 cup of Boiling Water
- 1 Tbsp of Vegetable Oil
- 2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
- 1 tsp Allspice
- 5 drops Nutmeg Essential Oil (or 1 tsp Nutmeg)
- 2 drops Orange Gel Food Coloring
- 1 Tbs Copper Glitter
- 2 oz. Plastic Sauce Cups With Lids
How To Make Pumpkin Pie Glitter Playdough
Start out with a clean bowl and add the flour, salt, and the dry spices. Stir to mix well. Next add water, oil, food coloring, and essential oils and stir to mix with the dry ingredients in the same bowl.
Keep stirring until mostly mixed, then drop the entire contents onto the counter and knead with your hands until the color and flour is mixed well. Playdough should no longer be sticky.
If it is, feel free to add a little extra flour and mix well. If it’s too dry, add a teaspoon of water and knead until well mixed.
Playdough should be soft, but not stick to your hands. After your playdough is well mixed, flatten on the counter like a pancake and sprinkle on desired amount of copper colored glitter and gently knead again. I added about 1 tablespoon of glitter, but you can add more, or less.

Next, add the water, gel food coloring, and oil and mix well with a spoon. Keep stirring until mostly mixed, then drop the entire contents onto the counter and knead with your hands until the color and flour is mixed well.

A special note about this recipe is the liquid Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Bean Paste. This is what gives this recipe it’s amazing vanilla bean smell and has such a lovely color that it adds to the recipe.
Besides Vanilla Bean playdough, this vanilla paste makes all my cookies recipes smell and taste amazing. It’s worth buying just to have on hand when you are baking.

How To Make Vanilla Bean Glitter Playdough
This fall glitter playdough recipe uses the same basic Koolaid Playdough recipe that we have been using all along, but with added vanilla bean flavor!
We will be making this version a little different. Because we have so many liquid ingredients, start out by adding the water, oil, vanilla bean paste, and food coloring to a bowl. Stir to mix well. Next add the dry ingredients – salt and flour – to the bowl and stir until well mixed.
After your playdough is well mixed, flatten on the counter like a pancake and sprinkle on desired amount of gold glitter and gently knead again. I added about 1 tablespoon of glitter, but you can add more, or less.
Doesn’t this fall glitter playdough recipe remind you of sugar cookies? In fact, that’s a great idea! Grab your kids and go play with your Vanilla Bean Glitter Playdough and make some playdough cookies! Boy do they smell good! Yummy!
4. Basil Glitter Playdough Recipe
My most unique, but lovely fall glitter playdough recipe I’d love to share with you is my Basil Glitter Playdough. This one is fresh, clean, and a lovely vibrant green color!
Supplies:
- 1 cup of Flour
- 1/4 cup of Salt
- 1/2 cup of Boiling Water
- 1 Tbsp of Vegetable Oil
- 10 drops Basil Essential Oil
- 1 drop Green Gel Food Coloring
- 1 Tbs Green Glitter
- 2 oz. plastic sauce cups with lids
How To Make Basil Glitter Playdough
Basil Glitter Playdough is just like the others and will use the same basic Koolaid Playdough recipe. This recipe will work best if you mix the wet ingredients first, then add the dry elements.
Start out by adding water, gel food coloring, oil, and Basil Essential Oil to a bowl. Give it a good stir. Next add flour and salt to the same bowl. Stir until well mixed.
After your playdough is well mixed, flatten on the counter like a pancake and sprinkle on desired amount of green glitter and gently knead again. I added about 1 tablespoon of glitter, but you can add more, or less.
Basil Glitter Playdough has a gorgeous green color and nice earthy scent! Share on XI love the gorgeous green color we achieved from this playdough, as well as the earthy smell of the Basil – it’s lovely!
