Leave Items In Your Online Cart?
Why in the world would you leave items in your online cart? There is a very good reason, and it will save you money. Have you ever done this before?
Let’s say you are doing some online shopping for a new PopSocket for the new phone you just got. You find a cute PopSocket you like and then your son interrupts you wanting a snack.

You get up to fetch him some Cheezits and you completely forget to go back to your shopping. The very next day you get an email from the PopSocket website reminding you to complete your order of what you had in your online cart. To sweeten the deal, they have also sent you a discount code of 10% off.
Abandoned Cart
I know from experience, because this just happened to me a few days ago, and it’s not the first time that it’s happened. This is called abandoned cart. An abandoned cart is when someone leaves a website without purchasing the items in their online shopping cart.
Retailers often utilize this abandoned cart strategy to encourage sales. It’s a great idea too! Especially when you were distracted and forgot about your purchase.

As a frugal mom, you can take advantage of this strategy to save even more money on stuff you plan to buy. The key is patience. In fact, a big part to saving money is simply patience. If you need to purchase something online, make sure you have an account on file, and then wait a day or two and see if the company sends you a reminder email along with a coupon code.
Patience Can Pay
Not every company does this though, but many of them do. Patience can pay off by giving you a discount!
I’ve personally done this so many times and recently, like I mentioned, it was for a PopSocket. We got new phones which meant I needed a new PopSocket. I searched all over for one that I liked. Who knew it was so hard to find one you loved?
I finally found one, with a cute grapefruit design PopSocket, on their website. But, as I was about to buy it, my son distracted me and wanted a snack and I never returned to finish my purchase. The next day when I remembered I never bought my PopSocket, I noticed an email from them offering me 10% off my abandoned cart order.
I’ve also done this when buying running shoes too! Both times, I didn’t do it on purpose, but now I try to remember this as another frugal living strategy. I was simply distracted and forgot about the items I added to my cart. When I got the email a day or so later with a discount, I was excited and went ahead and finished my purchase.
If you can stand to be patient, you just might save yourself some extra money by leaving items in your online cart and waiting until the next day to purchase.

My advice to you, get online and go shopping and consider leaving things in your online cart and see if you are offered any extra discounts before you buy them!
