Too Busy?
If you are anything l like me, you are busy. Your mom to-do list is LONG! I feel you! I have three kids, and all three of them are into stuff.
My oldest loves robots and is involved with all sorts of robot clubs and organizations like FIRST, and it keeps him very busy. Because he is busy, I’m busy too. I feel like I’m constantly driving him from one robot event to another.
My two other kids both play competitive soccer. When we are in-season, we are so busy. When we are out-of-season, we are still busy doing tournaments, indoor soccer, and practices to keep them on top of their game. So, i completely understand the word “busy.” We are so busy.
My Kids Are Super Busy Too!
Then, my youngest son also is very involved at his school with student council, and something called Battle of the Books (BOB) – which is a reading competition. I relate it best to the Spelling Bee, but for books.
Believe it or not, BOB keeps us very busy too! There have been days lately where we have gone from school, to an indoor soccer game. Then have to raced home to eat dinner and turn around to go to a BOB battle at our library.
Valentine-Loving-Busy-Mom
It’s a lot of fun, but wowzers! I’m a full-time taxi, which I’m positive you can relate to. But, despite being a taxi-driving-soccer-mom, I still love when a holiday rolls around – even a smaller holiday like Valentine’s Day, because it gives me a good excuse to celebrate.
I think I like to find any excuse to celebrate life because I grew up with a mom who tried to do the same thing. She loved to entertain, host parties and would make every holiday a reason to have a party. Even if it was just a family celebration at home.
Which leads me to the holiday coming up – Valentine’s Day! I realize it’s not a big-time holiday like Christmas, but it’s a great excuse to set aside time to enjoy your family, friends, neighbors or classmates.
I too, love to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my family, but I don’t always love the mom guilt I feel when I’m busy and don’t really have the time to scour Pinterest looking for cutesy cupid ideas.
The Perfect Valentine’s Day
In my perfect dream world, I would get up very early on Valentine’s Day, decorate my whole house with steamers, balloons, glitter and valentine decorations. Then I’d send my kids off to school after they had enjoyed a home-cooked breakfast of heart-shaped pancakes and fancy strawberries cut out like roses.
My kids would giggle and laugh and be so impressed that their mom just made them a fancy breakfast.
After school they’d arrive home from school to a plate full of heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies for a snack. Then we’d play afternoon Valentine games until their dad got home from work when we’d enjoy a homemade heart-shaped pizza, family games, and homemade gifts for each family member.
Everyone would get along, no one would be crabby, and my kids would eventually go off to bed thinking that I was the best mom in the entire world. Yep. That would be my dream.
Sound anything like yours?
Valentine Reality
The reality is that I want to celebrate and take some time out of our busy schedule to enjoy each other. This year, that means we will have to celebrate Valentine’s Day the day before because we have too much happening on the actual holiday.
While I want to do something special with my kids, I don’t always have the time to shop for cute gifts, or make decorations, or find cute Valentine games to play. Even though I want to do something fun with my family, I need it all to be faster and easier if it’s going to happen.
