Looking for some ideas of Christmas movies you should watch as a family this Christmas? Good!  You’ve come to the right place!  I’ve got the ultimate list of Christmas movies you should watch as a family and I’m sure you’ll love them!

Our family loves to watch Christmas movies during Christmastime. In fact, it seems weird to watch holiday movies any other time of year, and there are so many great Christmas movies that we try to pack as many in as we can during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Grab and cup of coffee and sit back for a minute.  Before I share my list of the Christmas movies you should watch as a family, I want to share something else with you that I’m sure you will love.  Because I know you love to save money as much as me, I’m sure you will love our Speed Party Planning Checklist!

Not All Movies Are Created Equal

Now, before we get to far into this list, I wanted to make sure that you know I don’t 100% endorse this list of movies.  I like a lot of the movies on this list – some are my favorites from childhood, but there are many things I would probably omit from each one.

Just because the movie was created in 1980 doesn’t mean it won’t have any bad language, rude humor, or obscenities.  I can’t control that part of the movies and many times, when we are watching on older movie with our kids, we are shocked at the small innuendos that are laced throughout the movie that I never picked up on as a kid.

A Small Warning

While I like this list of movies a lot and think these are great Christmas movies you should watch as a family, I can’t promise that the movie will be perfect for kids of all ages and won’t have any bad words or a small scene here and there that doesn’t need to be there.  Pay close attention to the movie rating and make your own call as a parent on if you want to show the movie to your kids.

We also have a few Christmas traditions that center around a few of these Christmas movies.  Every year we watch one of the Grinch movies, usually Dr. Suess’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carey.  While we watch, we also munch on Grinch Cookies (which you can find the recipe for in this post – 5 Quick & Easy Christmas Cookie Recipes) and Grinch Punch and it’s one of our most beloved Christmas traditions!

Frugal Ways To Watch Movies

I was just looking on my TV yesterday for free versions of the movies on this list.  ABC Family, which is now FreeForm, does play most of these movies during it’s 25 Days of Christmas.  You just need to make sure you catch them when they play, or DVR them to play later.  If you don’t want to wait, you can stream most of these movies from a streaming source, but you might have to pay for them.

You know me, I don’t like to pay for anything that I can get for free instead, so below is a list of other ways you can watch movies for free if you don’t find your favorites on the channels you already have.

Watch Movies For Free

  • Rent movies from the library
  • Rent a DVD from Redbox
  • Stream from Amazon if you already have a Prime Membership
  • Borrow an actual DVD from a friend or neighbor
  • Stream from your TV provider (a lot of movies are included for free with your TV)
  • Stream from Netflix

How We Watch Movies For Free

True story – we now have HULU, but we don’t pay for it.  We got a HULU membership for free when we upgraded our cell phones last year.  We get to keep our HULU membership for the duration of our time with TMobile, which is pretty sweet, because there are a lot of great movies on there.

I tell you that not to brag, but because you might be surprised how to get a lot of stuff free if you pay attention.  I even think some cell phone providers are offering a year free of Disney+ right now.  There is nothing wrong with getting extra stuff when you need a new cell phone – just don’t overpay for it!
